Foundation CURE, in collaboration with UNICEF Bosnia and Herzegovina, is implementing the “EmpowerHER” project. This six-month program, running from February to August 2024, is designed to educate and empower young women to recognize and combat gender-based violence and to share their knowledge through workshops in their communities. The project is especially significant in rural areas of BiH, where gender-based violence is often a taboo topic.
From March 22 to 24, 2024, a Training of Trainers (ToT) was held with 13 participants from Sarajevo, Mostar, Zenica, Tuzla, and Prnjavor. Through an interactive approach, the participants covered key topics such as biases, stereotypes, discrimination, types of violence, gender and sex, and digital security. After the training, two online meetings were held to provide additional support in conducting workshops.
The first independent workshops were held in Tuzla and Prnjavor on April 19, 2024, with 16 participants, and in Zenica on April 30, 2024, with 17 participants. Upcoming workshops are planned in Mostar, Zenica, and Sarajevo.
During the ToT training, participants created messages for an online campaign. The first message was published on April 24 on Foundation CURE’s social media, reaching 690 users and 749 impressions.
This project aims to promote the values of equality, non-discrimination, and the right to a safe life, with a particular focus on empowering young women as leaders in the fight against gender-based violence. Through these activities, we believe we will achieve a long-term positive impact on the community, promoting tolerance, understanding, and respect for human rights.
