The CURE Foundation, the Women’s Empowerment Foundation and the Grahovo Citizens’ Association have organized trainings called “Integrated Security and the European Union” and “Integrated Workshops for Marginalized Groups of Women” in Bosanski Grahovo, with a focus on taking care of yourselves from a personal and organizational perspective.

The workshops were organized for members of the “Grahovo” citizens association and their associates, supporters and beneficiaries. Training on the topic of integrated security is a model created out of a need to create security; hence patriarchal norms are much normalized within power structures.

Security risks for women’s activists and defenders of human rights can be physically and emotionally damaging, in every aspect of life, and women need to be empowered to analyze and evaluate their position and situation in order to be able to view the overall picture of risks they are facing and learn how to respond as well as to learn how to cope strategies with these risks.

After the workshops, the participants emphasized that through training they learned a lot about self-control, self-confidence, and they made a promise that they will be much more honest with themselves.

The messages they will bring out from this sessions are that emotion mapping is very important for health, and they said that they will be aware of themselves as well as to know how to see themselves in eyes of others.

One of the participants said that she would use the acquired knowledge to work on herself, promising that she will devote more time to her needs, but also to give positive examples to others.

– I will not live as it suits others, I have my own character. I was quite overwhelmed by the expectations of others, but I solve every problem by myself and I do not need someone else to tell me how to live – one of the participants emphasized.

Also, one of the attendees at the training shared her experience, saying that in the time she experience stress she wants to be alone in nature where she has one place where she can be relaxed and free. That is the place where she does not think about everyday stress, she just relax by looking for facial features in the mountains in front of her.

Talking about security issues, participant of the trainings emphasize that security means having a job, safe and regular income, but also stable interpersonal relationships, as well as a roof over their heads. They believe that for a sense of security it is also important to have a good health system, freedom for activism and speech, and to live in a peaceful environment but also to have society free of corruption.

Both training sessions were interactive and the methods of work included interviews, exercises, presentations and group work.

The trainings are organized within the framework of the project “Women’s Rights – Agenda for Positive Change”, funded by the European Union and implemented by the CURE Foundation and the Women’s Empowerment Foundation (FWE).

The purpose of the project is to contribute to the promotion for women’s rights, and to contribute to the eradication of discrimination against women, with a particular focus on women and girls within marginalized and minority groups in ten (10) municipalities in B&H, and Bosansko Grahovo is one of them.
